“Miss Betty Thompson was one of our speakers at the 2012 Youth in Action Conference. She brought a lot of excitement to the 4-H members sitting in that room. She was very energetic and the crowd was very involved in her presentation. She made such an impact on the members because many of them didn’t realize that she had been a very successful Northeast District 4-H member and officer. Our theme was “Never Give Up”. Betty shared her story of running for Miss Oklahoma and not being successful but refusing to give up she tried again until she was successful. Today’s youth face many challenges and many choose to give up very quickly but the goal of 4-H is to help those individuals become better citizens by choosing not to give up when things aren’t going exactly as planned. She was a great speaker and definitely added to our theme. She has become very successful and I am proud to call her a former 4-H member from the Northeast District of Oklahoma.
