School Visits

Fall is here…which means school visits have started, and I need a flu shot! πŸ™‚

My first official day in the schools was a busy one, I spoke at Lomega Elementary and High School, Okeene Elementary and Canton Elementary. . I absolutely loved it! My program is called “The Road to Success.” It’s a fun interactive assembly that addresses setting goals, self- respect and making good decisions (including healthy eating and the importance of dairy in their diet as well as drug and alcohol awareness and prevention.) I am lucky to be working with Susan Allen of Dairy Max so my first day was the kick off for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program!

My First Official Visit to Stillwater

One of the highlights of my Miss Oklahoma Experience was getting to go back to Oklahoma State University for the season opener football game. OSU booked me to sign autographs at the College of Education Tailgate, be a part of the pep rally….and be introduced on field at the football game! Dream come true!!!!

Orlando–Miss America’s Outstanding Teen

I had an amazing time in Orlando watching our beautiful Clytee Burchett represent Oklahoma in the national pageant. She is such a beautiful girl inside and out and I’m so thankful that I’ve been given the opportunity to share the year with her.

All of the Miss America contestants met in Orlando! We had dinner parties, went to the pageant together and even made a trip to Disney World!! It was my FIRST time EVER to Disney World! I absolutely loved it! This has been an amazing week and I’ve made some incredible friends. I’m so thankful to have had this opportunity!

Summer Months

Throughout the summer I’ve had the opportunity for several different speaking engagements. I was asked to teach an etiquette lesson to college interns at Chesapeake Energy in Oklahoma City. I was honored to speak at such an incredible company. The Chesapeake campus was absolutely beautiful and their chocolate cake was delicious! πŸ™‚

I emceed my very first pageant in the summer as well, Miss Okmulgee County. I enjoyed once again being on the other side of the competition!

I was also invited to speak at the Oklahoma Blood Institute’s Thanks and Giving Day at the Oklahoma Aquarium. This was an experience that impacted my life because of the people I met. There was a family that spoke that had the most amazing story. One of the boys was diagnosed with Leukemia and spent several months in our CMN Hospitals. He not only required a blood transplant in order to receive the needed treatments, but after that would also need a marrow transfer. They were informed that even if they reached this point, the chance of finding a marrow donor was very slim. However, a miracle was in store for this family. The sister just 2 years above her brother was a perfect match. This transfer ultimately saved his life. Hearing the story come straight from the sister was unbelievable. It truly made me realize how incredibly blessed my family has been.

I also spoke at the FFA Reporter’s Symposium and the State 4-H Roundup Delegation. It was amazing to go back and speak to the upcoming youth in the organizations that played such a large role in my life. Without either of those organizations and the skills that they helped me develop, I would never be where I am today.

I watched our beautiful Miss Oklahoma 2009, Taylor Treat Burgett dance the Cha Cha at Oklahoma’s Dancing for a Miracle event. She was amazing, and the event raised thousands, literally thousands for CMNH!

MISS AMERICA PLACEMENT PARTY

On August 9th, we had the placement party. The computer randomly draws state names and then that contestant gets to select what competition number she wants to be. This determines what night you compete in each phase of competition. I was the 7th name drawn! I chose contestant #13 in the Sigma Group, which means that during Miss America I will compete in interview Tuesday morning, Swimsuit and Evening Gown Tuesday night, Talent on Wednesday and On-stage Question on Thursday! Final night is televised, Saturday January 14 on ABC!

Look who I met while judging the Oklahoma City Thunder Girl’s Tryouts!!!! Football legend, Barry Switzer!

My trip to Miss Texas!

This week Kay and I went down to Texas to watch the Miss Texas pageant. What a fun few days! It’s so much more relaxing to watch a pageant and not have to stress about competing. πŸ™‚ I met Miss Louisiana, Hope Anderson; Miss New Mexico, Sarina Turnbull; and Miss Wyoming, Catherine Brown. Such sweet girls!

While we were in Dallas, we went shopping at Nordstroms….what girl doesn’t want to shop in that store?! I LOVED it! Now I am ready for my school visits in the fall.

Saturday was the final night of Miss Texas, they crowned a beautiful young lady named Kendall Morris. I look forward to meeting her!

My first week as Miss Oklahoma

The moment I was crowned Miss Oklahoma 2011 on June 11, my life was instantly changed. After sharing the excitement with my family and close friends that evening I spoke at the Miss Oklahoma Awards Breakfast. This was the first time that I addressed a large group as Miss Oklahoma.

The very next morning I was up for my very first press conference and immediately after I moved into the new Miss Oklahoma apartment! It’s going to take quite a while for this to sink in! Bright and early (5:30am) on Monday, I was off to the local news stations for interviews. I love this job!!!

This week I found out where the tanning salon, car wash, cleaners, gym, and nail salon are! I’m so lucky that Miss Oklahoma has such amazing sponsors! πŸ™‚
